Three Days of HBCU Culture in South Florida

The Pepsi National Battle of the Bands will return to The Palm Beaches for Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in 2027, bringing three days of HBCU marching band culture, education, entrepreneurship, community service and entertainment to South Florida from January 14 through January 16.

Five HBCU Bands Announced So Far

The main event is scheduled for January 16 at Flagler Credit Union Stadium, with gates opening at 1:30 p.m. and the show beginning at 3 p.m. Participating bands announced to date are Alabama State University’s Mighty Marching Hornets, Bethune-Cookman University’s Marching Wildcats, Edward Waters University’s Triple Threat Marching Band, Florida A&M University’s Marching “100” and Miles College’s Purple Marching Machine. Additional bands are expected to be announced.

Programming Extends Beyond the Stadium

The weekend begins January 14 with the NBOTB Cares Community Service Initiative. On January 15, the Emerging Experience Entrepreneurship Conference will bring entrepreneurs and small-business owners together for networking, conversations and resources intended to support business growth. The conference is free with advance registration.

College Access and Career Opportunities

January 16 will also include a free HBCU College & Career Fair connecting students and families with as many as 35 HBCUs and employers. Organizers say attendees will have access to opportunities that include waived application fees, on-site admissions and scholarships. A free Fan Experience will add vendors, music, dance and step teams, the Divine Nine Stroll Off Competition and other entertainment.

Scholarships and Visibility for HBCU Bands

The National Battle of the Bands was created to increase visibility for HBCUs and their marching bands while highlighting their role in developing musicians and future leaders. The organization says the event has awarded more than $2.4 million in scholarships to participating institutions and attracts tens of thousands of fans annually. The Related Ross Foundation has also joined the event as a sponsor for the 2027 celebration.
