HAMILTON, ON — Jamaican-born, Canadian-raised author Kayla Perrin is celebrating another chapter in a publishing career spanning more than 25 years with the release of her newest novel, Her Undercover Protector.

The Hamilton-based USA Today bestselling author has published more than 60 books with major publishing houses including Harlequin, St. Martin’s Press, HarperCollins and Kensington.

Her Undercover Protector was released by Harlequin Romantic Suspense, while another novel, Her Bodyguard, is expected to follow this fall.

From Jamaica to a Long-Running Canadian Publishing Career

Perrin’s career reflects a journey that began in Jamaica, continued in Canada and eventually reached an international readership.

In information provided to Vision Newspaper, Perrin identified the experience of building a long-running commercial publishing career as a Black Caribbean-Canadian woman as an important part of her story.

She also pointed to the role of representation in her work, including writing Black heroes and heroines within mainstream commercial romance and romantic suspense.

More Than 60 Published Books

Longevity is a defining feature of Perrin’s career. Across more than two decades, she has continued publishing as the industry has changed around her.

Perrin said a recent visit to a Hamilton Walmart provided a memorable reminder of that journey when she found Her Undercover Protector on the shelves alongside books by major international authors.

Her latest releases add to a catalogue of more than 60 books and continue a career that has placed a Jamaican-Canadian voice within the North American commercial publishing landscape.
