The former Miss Jamaica World second runner-up says her move into television marks a new chapter in a career spanning entrepreneurship, beauty, wellness and entertainment.
South Florida — Jamaican-born entrepreneur and former pageant contestant Milinda Smith is expanding her professional career into American television, adding another chapter to a path that has taken her from Jamaica’s pageant stage to business and entertainment in South Florida.
From Pageantry to American Television
Smith, who was second runner-up in Miss Jamaica World 2016, told Vision Newspaper that she recently made a television appearance on OWN’s “Put a Ring on It.” Her media materials identify the programme as “Put a Ring on It: CheatHab.”
The television appearance adds to a résumé that Smith says spans beauty and wellness, security, real estate, writing and entertainment.
“My career has evolved from pageantry into entrepreneurship, entertainment and media,” Smith wrote in a story pitch to Vision Newspaper. “After building my career in South Florida across beauty, wellness and security, I’m now expanding into American television while continuing to represent my Jamaican heritage.”
Building a Multi-Industry Career
Smith’s press materials list her as an entrepreneur behind Epidermasters and Superior Protection Security & Services. They also state that she holds a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration.
Her pageant background remains a significant part of her public profile. In addition to finishing second runner-up in Miss Jamaica World 2016, Smith’s supplied biography lists Miss Beach Beauty, Best Overall Physique and Best Smile among her honours from that year’s competition.
Her entertainment credits, according to the same media kit, include appearances connected with the film “Bad Boys for Life” and music videos involving Jamaican recording artists Christopher Martin and Beenie Man.
Maintaining Jamaican Connections
Smith’s trajectory reflects a broader diaspora experience in which Caribbean professionals build careers across several industries while maintaining connections to their countries of origin. In her case, she has framed the move into television as an extension of the businesses and entertainment work she has already pursued in the United States.
She also describes community involvement as part of her work. Her supplied biography lists involvement with the Jamaican-American International Chamber of Commerce and the Jamaican Ex-Soldiers Association, among other activities.
For Smith, the latest television exposure represents another step in a career that has continued to evolve since her Miss Jamaica World appearance a decade ago.
