Jamaican-Canadian Henri Fraser Honoured After 26 Years Serving Toronto’s Homeless Elders

Henri Fraser Haven Toronto recognition honours 26 years of service to homeless and marginally housed older men

TORONTO, ON — Jamaican-Canadian community worker Henri Fraser has been honoured by Haven Toronto after 26 years of service supporting homeless and marginally housed older men in Toronto.

Fraser received the Haven Toronto Outstanding Service Award during the organization’s Recognition Awards on September 15. The event brought together community members and supporters to recognize people and organizations that have contributed to Haven’s work.

A Life Built Between Jamaica and Canada

Originally from St. Ann, Jamaica, Fraser came to Canada in 1976. His decades in Toronto have included 26 years of work with Haven Toronto and the men who rely on its services.

Haven Toronto, a program of St. Michael’s Homes, operates a day centre dedicated to homeless men aged 50 and older. Its services include meals, nursing and housing support.

More Than Two Decades of Service

Fraser’s recognition highlights the long-term role frontline workers play in maintaining relationships and continuity for people experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

The September 15 ceremony was Haven Toronto’s second annual Recognition Awards and was held at the Royal Canadian Military Institute. The organization used the event to recognize individuals and organizations whose work has supported its community.

Fraser’s journey from St. Ann to Toronto places his recognition within a broader Jamaican-Canadian story of migration, community service and institution-building in the city.
