Jhené Aiko Earns First Billboard 200 No. 1 With Westside Whimsy

Jhené Aiko Westside Whimsy debuts at No. 1 with 74,000 equivalent album units, giving the Los Angeles R&B singer her first Billboard 200 chart-topper nearly 13 years after her first appearance on the ranking.

Jhené Aiko has reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time in her career, adding a major chart milestone to the rollout of her fourth studio album, Westside Whimsy.

The album opened atop the Billboard 200 dated September 26 after earning 74,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the tracking week ending September 17, according to Luminate.

Streaming drove the debut. Westside Whimsy generated 70,000 streaming-equivalent album units, representing 71.33 million on-demand official streams of its songs. Album sales accounted for 3,500 units, while track-equivalent activity added 500.

A First No. 1 After More Than a Decade

The result comes nearly 13 years after Aiko first entered the Billboard 200 with Sail Out in 2013. That project peaked at No. 8. Souled Out reached No. 3 in 2014, Trip peaked at No. 5 in 2017 and Chilombo reached No. 2 in 2020.

Westside Whimsy is also the first R&B album by a woman to lead the Billboard 200 in 2026. The previous female-led R&B album to reach No. 1 was SZA’s SOS in May 2025.

Streaming Powers Westside Whimsy

The 20-track album was released September 11 and features Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Larry June, Tyga and OHMA. Its No. 1 debut follows a compact rollout that placed Aiko back at the centre of contemporary R&B after a six-year gap between studio albums.

The chart result gives the Westside Whimsy campaign a second major news cycle only days after its release, shifting the story from Aiko’s return to a new career peak.
