Black Canadians and Caribbean Legacy Reflected in Education Investment
TORONTO, ON — Grace Foods Canada Inc. marked Black History Month 2026 with a significant investment in education and community impact, announcing a $5,000 student bursary as part of its sponsorship of the University of Toronto’s Black History Month Luncheon.
In total, the company contributed more than $15,000 in product support, alongside the bursary donation, reinforcing its commitment to supporting Black communities across Canada, including the Caribbean diaspora.
The bursary is dedicated in honour of Dr. Mary Anne Chambers, the recently retired Chair of the Board of Grace Foods Canada Inc., recognizing her longstanding contributions to education, mentorship, and community leadership.
Supporting Education and Community Advancement
Hosted annually by the University of Toronto’s Division of University Advancement, the Black History Month Luncheon brings together students, faculty, alumni, and community leaders. The event features distinguished speakers, live performances, and recognition of the contributions of Black communities.
Grace Foods Canada’s sponsorship extends beyond financial support. The company also provided food products for meal preparation, branded gift bags, and VIP gift baskets for attendees.
“Black History Month is an opportunity to recognize the leadership, resilience, and impact of Black communities while reaffirming our responsibility to create equitable opportunities for future generations,” said Nimal Amitirigala, President of Grace Foods Canada Inc.
“Education expands access and drives long-term change. By supporting this bursary, we are investing directly in students and helping remove financial barriers to academic success,” he added.
Honouring Leadership and Legacy
The decision to dedicate the bursary to Dr. Chambers reflects her decades-long advocacy for education and mentorship. Grace Foods Canada stated that the contribution aligns with her enduring commitment to expanding access to higher education.
Through initiatives like this, the company continues to strengthen its ties to Black Canadian communities while honouring its Caribbean roots, a core part of the Grace brand identity.
