Kingston, Jamaica – As the world approaches the 17th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death on June 25, fans and music industry figures continue to celebrate the enduring legacy of the artist widely known as the King of Pop.

More than a decade and a half after his passing at age 50, Jackson’s music remains among the most popular in the world. His groundbreaking performances, iconic dance moves, and record-breaking albums continue to influence artists across genres, while millions of fans revisit his catalogue every year.

From Jamaica to England and across North America, admirers say Jackson’s impact on music and popular culture remains unmatched.

The King of Pop’s Lasting Impact

Few entertainers have achieved the level of success enjoyed by Michael Jackson.

From his early days with The Jackson 5 to his record-breaking solo career, Jackson transformed popular music through his innovative performances, music videos, and stage productions. His 1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time and is widely regarded as one of the most influential records in music history.

Byron Malcolm, who has spent nearly five decades working in artiste management, show promotion, and public relations, believes Jackson’s influence remains as powerful as ever.

“Michael Jackson is still a teen idol and an adult idol,” Malcolm said. “He was idolized as a child and remained so even in death.

“His Thriller album is still the best-selling album in history.”

Malcolm believes Jackson’s body of work has allowed him to remain relevant long after his passing.

“People still listen to his music every day. His songs continue to inspire younger generations who were not even born when he was at the height of his career,” he said.

Inspiring a New Generation

For many younger musicians and producers, Michael Jackson remains a source of inspiration.

American-based record producer Kason Murray, founder of DreamX Productions, described Jackson as one of his earliest musical influences.

“I grew up hearing about Michael and saw the magic in him,” Murray said. “Michael was no ordinary entertainer. He was much bigger than life.”

Like countless fans around the world, Murray said he tried to emulate Jackson’s style and stage presence.

“As a child, I wanted to dress like Michael, wearing similar clothes and even gloves. I tried to mimic his moonwalk and even tried singing like him.”

Among Jackson’s extensive catalogue, Murray says one song stands above the rest.

“My favourite Michael Jackson song is Human Nature because I love the instrumental, which perfectly complements the melody.”

Setting the Standard for Entertainers

Jamaican recording artiste and producer Mackie Conscious believes Jackson established a standard that few entertainers have been able to match.

“Until someone surpasses all that Michael Jackson achieved, he remains the greatest entertainer the world has ever seen,” Mackie Conscious said.

“No one has come close to Michael’s dancing ability. Whenever he worked on an album, he recorded dozens of songs and selected only the very best.”

He added that Jackson’s influence continues to shape the aspirations of performers around the world.

“Millions of children dream of being like Michael. His impact on music and entertainment is still being felt today.”

Fans Across the World Still Celebrate Michael

Michael Jackson’s appeal continues to transcend borders and generations.

In Birmingham, England, fans still speak passionately about the artist whose performances captivated audiences worldwide.

One admirer, Tiane, expressed her feelings simply.

“I just love Michael,” she said.

Her friend Kurt believes Jackson’s ability to connect with audiences remains unmatched.

“Michael Jackson is King with a capital K,” Kurt said. “He will always be King because of everything he accomplished, especially his dancing.

“He drove people crazy whenever he took the stage. Fans would memorize every single line of his songs.”

For many supporters, Jackson’s music remains a soundtrack to their lives nearly two decades after his passing.

Michael’s Influence in Jamaica

Jackson’s influence is also evident throughout Jamaica, where tribute performers and devoted fans continue to celebrate his work.

Patrick Williams, popularly known as Josaommar, credits Jackson’s combination of music, dance, and personality for creating one of entertainment’s most enduring legacies.

“He is the greatest dancer and singer,” Williams said. “He knew how to move a crowd through his lyrics, his dance moves, and his entire personality.”

Williams pointed to We Are the World as one of Jackson’s most meaningful contributions.

“The song teaches us that we should care for the less fortunate,” he said.

He added that while several Michael Jackson impersonators have emerged in Jamaica over the years, none have been able to fully capture the magic of the original performer.

A Legacy That Lives On

Jamaican nurse Maya Tate said Jackson’s humility helped strengthen her admiration for him.

“He once mentioned that he would watch and copy the moves of James Brown,” Tate said. “Because of that, I respect him even more because he always gave credit to those who inspired him.”

Born on August 29, 1958, to Joe and Katherine Jackson, Michael Jackson rose from child star with The Jackson 5 to become one of the most successful solo artists in music history. His landmark albums, including Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, and HIStory, helped redefine popular music and earned him a place among the most influential entertainers of all time.

Seventeen years after his death on June 25, 2009, Jackson’s legacy continues to transcend generations. From Toronto to Kingston, Birmingham to Los Angeles, fans continue to celebrate the music, performances, and cultural impact of an artist whose influence shows no signs of fading.

For millions around the world, Michael Jackson remains not only the King of Pop, but one of the most enduring figures in entertainment history.
