NEW YORK — Jamaican music veterans Sister Nancy and Brigadier Jerry will headline the American Friends of Jamaica’s Hummingbird Gala After Party at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan on Friday, October 16.
Dubbed “One Unforgettable Night,” the after-party begins at 9 p.m. and extends the AFJ’s flagship fundraising event into a celebration of Jamaican music and culture.
Dancehall Veterans Share the Bill
The pairing brings together two artists with deep roots in Jamaica’s sound-system and early dancehall traditions. Sister Nancy’s catalogue includes the enduring “Bam Bam,” while Brigadier Jerry is known for the deejay style that helped define an important period in Jamaican dancehall.
Selector Max Glazer will curate the soundtrack in addition to the headline performances.
Music Meets Philanthropy
The American Friends of Jamaica has operated for more than four decades, with the Hummingbird Gala serving as a fundraising platform for community development, education and healthcare initiatives in Jamaica.
That gives the October 16 after-party a dual role: closing the gala’s formal programme while placing Jamaican music at the centre of the celebration.
A Busy October for Sister Nancy
The New York appearance comes one week after Sister Nancy’s scheduled October 9 performance with Marcia Griffiths at Reggae Ambassadors in Concert in Toronto.
The AFJ Hummingbird Gala After Party begins at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 16, at The Plaza Hotel in New York City.
