The Portland-shot visual follows a relationship through love, pregnancy and conflict while extending the roots reggae single’s message about commitment.
Jamaica — Roots reggae singer and songwriter Empress Minott has released the official music video for “Love Me When It’s Hard,” pairing the song’s message about commitment with a relationship-centred storyline filmed in Portland.
Filmed Across Portland
Empress Minott and Kevin “Supa Nova” Salmon of Dub School JA co-directed the video. The release credits Minott with conceiving the original concept, while Salmon directed, filmed and edited the production.
Salmon also appears in the video as Minott’s partner, which the promotional release describes as his acting debut.
A Relationship Tested by Difficult Circumstances
The storyline begins with the couple meeting and developing a relationship before moving into a period in which they are expecting their first child.
Conflict later develops between the pair, and the man steps away from the relationship following disagreements. The narrative is designed to mirror the song’s central question of whether love and commitment can endure when circumstances become difficult.
Extending the Song’s Message
“Love Me When It’s Hard” focuses on patience, support and commitment beyond the happier stages of a relationship. The video translates those themes into a visual narrative rather than presenting love only through celebratory moments.
The single is available on major digital music platforms, while the official video is available on YouTube.
