USPS Unveils 2026 Kwanzaa Stamp Featuring a Father and Daughter

2026 Kwanzaa stamp marks the Postal Service’s 11th Kwanzaa design and puts family, the zawadi and the unity cup at the center of a fresh visual interpretation

The U.S. Postal Service has issued its latest Kwanzaa stamp, continuing a tradition of honoring the pan-African holiday observed annually from December 26 through January 1. The stamp was dedicated September 23 during the 111th annual conference of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History in Norfolk, Virginia.

A Father-Daughter Pair Takes Center Stage

The digital illustration shows a father holding his young daughter as they smile at one another. The daughter holds a wrapped zawadi, or gift, while her father holds a kikombe cha umoja, or unity cup. Their clothing incorporates green, yellow, white and dark pink, with the design using a brighter palette than the red, black and green most commonly associated with Kwanzaa.

Artist Cannaday Chapman Draws on Fatherhood

Art director Antonio Alcalá selected illustrator Cannaday Chapman to create the design. Chapman chose to focus on family in part because he is a new father to a daughter and also drew from childhood memories of celebrating Kwanzaa, including lighting candles and wearing traditional clothing. The result is the first USPS Kwanzaa stamp centered on a father-daughter pair.

Two Kwanzaa Symbols in a Small Frame

The stamp’s compact composition incorporates two of Kwanzaa’s seven symbols through the zawadi and unity cup. Chapman described the lime green, pink and yellow color scheme as a vibrant update to the traditional palette, while Alcalá said his goal for the Kwanzaa series is to honor both the celebration and those who observe it while remaining accessible to the wider public.

The 11th Kwanzaa Stamp

The 2026 issue is the Postal Service’s 11th Kwanzaa stamp. It is being sold in panes of 20 as a Forever stamp, meaning it will remain valid for the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate regardless of future price changes.
