African Soldier Patoranking and Buju Banton Unite Africa and the Caribbean in Powerful Roots Reggae Collaboration

Kingston, Jamaica / Lagos, Nigeria — Nigerian music star Patoranking has teamed up with GRAMMY Award-winning reggae icon Buju Banton on a new single titled “African Soldier,” a roots reggae offering that blends African pride with a call for unity and liberation across the global Black diaspora.

Released as the second single from Patoranking’s upcoming fifth studio album, “African Soldier” marks a deliberate return to the reggae and dancehall sounds that have shaped the artist’s musical foundation. The collaboration brings together two influential voices—one from Africa and one from Jamaica—each known for using music as a platform for cultural expression and social commentary.

A Message Rooted in Identity and Liberation

“African Soldier” carries a strong thematic focus on Black empowerment, unity, and cultural pride, reinforcing the connection between African and Caribbean musical traditions. The track reflects Patoranking’s long-standing fusion of Afrobeats, reggae, and dancehall, a style that has defined his global appeal.

Speaking on the project, Patoranking explained that the single was intentionally crafted as a return to the sounds that inspired his early journey in music, emphasizing the enduring power of reggae as a cultural and political voice.

High-Calibre Production and Global Collaboration

The single is produced by Jazzwad, known for his work with artists such as Bounty Killer, Popcaan, and Damian Marley. The production incorporates live instrumentation, including drums, bass, guitar, keys, and horns, recorded with session musicians from Jamaica to preserve an authentic reggae sound.

GRAMMY-winning audio engineer Bonzai, whose credits include Mariah Carey and Nas, handled the mixing and mastering, delivering a polished and dynamic final product.

The official music video, directed by Nigerian filmmaker UAX, was shot in New York City and visually expands on the song’s themes of growth, resilience, and global Black excellence.

Patoranking’s Global Impact

Patoranking remains one of the leading voices in Afro-dancehall, with a catalogue that includes major hits such as “My Woman My Everything” and “Babylon.” His work has accumulated over two billion global streams and earned recognition from international platforms including Billboard and Rolling Stone.

Beyond music, he continues to make an impact through the Patoranking Foundation, which supports youth development, education, and entrepreneurship across Africa. His role as a United Nations Development Programme Regional Goodwill Ambassador further reflects his commitment to social progress.

A Cross-Continental Musical Statement

With Buju Banton’s legacy as one of reggae’s most influential voices and Patoranking’s position as a global Afro-dancehall ambassador, “African Soldier” stands as a cross-continental collaboration rooted in shared history and forward-looking purpose.

The single is now available on all major streaming platforms, with the official music video also released online.
